O Orkut pode voltar a existir de alguma forma em breve. O antigo endereço do site orkut.com foi reativado e contém um comunicado assinado pelo criador da plataforma, Orkut Büyükkökten, que diz estar construindo algo novo e pretende apresentá-lo ao mundo em breve. Igor Almenara – Canaltech
Nela, usuários podiam compartilhar um pouco da própria vida num estilo diferente das redes de hoje, com as conversas centradas em comunidades no melhor estilo fórum.
Em 2014, porém, a plataforma foi desligada pelo Google. Na época, a empresa dizia que iria focar esforços no crescimento do YouTube, do Blogger e do esquecido Google+ (também aposentado anos depois). Embora a rede social já não estivesse em seus melhores dias, deixou muita gente com saudade da interface, passatempos e dinâmica de interação entre pessoas, como depoimentos, comunidades e joguinhos.

Após o site oficial do Orkut ser reativado com uma mensagem do seu fundador prometendo novidade em breve, a extinta rede social do Google se tornou um dos assuntos mais comentados desta quinta-feira (28), gerando memes e comemorações de internautas.
O engenheiro turco Orkut Buyukkokten afirmou que está construindo algo novo, o que deixa a entender sobre a possível reativação da extinta rede social do Google, que foi criada em 2004 e durou 10 anos. Detalhes não foram informados.
O anúncio, em inglês e português, foi feito dois dias depois que Elon Musk fechou um acordo para comprar o Twitter por US$ 44 bilhões. A compra dividiu a opinião dos usuários e muito deles passaram a pedir a volta do Orkut.
Well before we had Snapchat, Facebook, and even Twitter, Orkut was all the range in India. It was arguably the first streamlined social network that took hold in the country. After all, the haphazard, chaotic Hi5 doesn’t really count. However, Orkut eventually lost the race to Facebook, finally being shut down in September 2014, long after users had abandoned it.
As people vouch to delete Facebook in the wake of a massive data breach scandal, Orkut Buyukkokten — a former Google employee who founded the trendsetter social networking website Orkut.com more than a decade ago — in a Wednesday launched a new social network “Hello” in India.
A Hello, porém, não conseguiu números muito interessantes — ela acumulava praticamente 1 milhão de usuários no mundo inteiro. No ano passado, o projeto recebeu a versão 3.0, uma grande atualização em interface, usabilidade e interatividade.
Contudo, aparentemente a injeção de recursos não foi suficiente para fazer a Hello crescer e, este ano, a plataforma foi desativada. O site oficial da rede foi substituído por um comunicado breve, com visual bem semelhante à mensagem publicada em orkut.com, e alega “não ser um adeus”, mas um “até breve”.
“We designed ‘Hello’ to help you make connections in the real world. It’s a social network built on loves not likes, and I’m delighted to say ‘Hello’ to India once again,” said Buyukkokten, now the CEO of San Francisco-based Hello Network Inc.
Interestingly, since Facebook was the one to dethrone Orkut and force the company to shut down its operations in 2014, which was once the leading social media network in India and Brazil, it seems like an irony that it is back with a new name ‘Hello’ at a time when Facebook is going through its worst of times.
Hello is the next generation of Orkut, and is probably the first social network that lets you connect with people who have the same interest and passions as you.
Hello is different from Facebook and Twitter as it asks you to select five “personas” that you have an interest in and it will help you connect with people of the same interest.
“Today’s online networks force people to treat each other totally differently from how they would behave face-to-face. Technology should help us become more understanding, more optimistic, kinder and better people,” the Orkut founder added.
Não existem garantias de que Büyükkökten colocará o Orkut para funcionar outra vez — isso também seria algo bastante complicado, uma vez que boa parte dos direitos sobre a rede são detidos pelo Google. Porém, alguma novidade importante para os mais saudosos deve ser divulgada em pouco tempo. Ao final do comunicado, há um campo para inserir o próprio e-mail e acompanhar as notícias em primeira mão.
